The men from the Ministry of Works need some help with their plans to work out the perimeter, area, and at senator level, volume, of some buildings. The Ministry of Works allows children to reinforce and practise measuring the perimeter and area of rectangles.

When this demo version is used, the activity is played at 'Citizen' level (the middle level) and the building is always 2m x 1m in size. There is only one (and not three) building to be calculated before the reward is given.
A plan of a building is shown. At slave and citizen levels, this consists of one rectangle, and at senator level, two rectangles put together are used.

The children will be asked a number of questions about the building: At slave level, you are asked for the width and length of the building, which are the longer (shown vertically on the screen) and shorter side respectively. At all levels, you are asked for the perimeter and area of each building. At senator level, you are also asked to work out the volume of the building.
You have three attempts at each question before the correct answer is shown, and questions about three buildings need to be answered before the reward is received. All responses are recorded, which can be displayed in the reporting section.
There is online help available for this activity on perimeter, area and volume.
