In Writing Letters, children can select and draw around
large letters from a to z, with an appropriate object to
help with recognition, letter shapes and the order of letters.
In Matching Letters, letters from around the edge of the screen
need to be matched to reveal different colourful pictures of
Smudge. Matching Letters is a lot of fun to use and will help
children with spatial skills, letter recognition and distinguishing
upper and lower case letters.
In this fun activity, children
need to complete a jigsaw picture, which can be one of several
scenes. When pieces are placed, Smudge will bark or growl,
if you are right or wrong.
In this activity a picture is shown
(for example of a farmyard or a beach scene) and children need
to place the objects from around the edge of the scene onto
the picture. It will encourage communication if used by a pair
or group of children.
In Fill the Gap, a word is shown
with a missing first letter, last letter or blend (sh-, ch-,
oo-), which children must type in or select from a number of
options. Watch Smudge walk and tumble when a correct answer
is made!
This is a children’s first Word
Processor, in which short stories, thank you letters, poems
etc. can be created, with a selection of borders. It is very
simple to use, children just need to type letters and words
in order to be creative!
In this activity, children must
place markers to identify different punctuation marks in the
short story shown on the screen. This activity can be used
with different levels of difficulty and with 15 different punctuation
marks.
Story to Correct
(from Smudge
Punctuates)
In Story to Correct, short pieces of text are shown on the
screen onto which children must add the missing punctuation
marks. This activity can be used with different levels of
difficulty and with 15 different punctuation marks.
The Literacy Collection is six
different activities to introduce and improve literacy
skills. Smudge allows children to work at their own pace, and
includes: Writing
Letters; a fun Jigsaw; creating scenes in Make
a Picture; Fill the Gap and Complete the
Words where
words are shown with missing gaps; and a children’s first Word
Processor.
