Smudge extends an invitation to discover and explore a world beyond her kennel
with SMUDGE DISCOVERS THE WORLD, an interactive package to equip children with
basic geographical skills. This easy-to-use program is presented in four parts,
with support material for work away from the computer.
In part one, Smudge looks at different types of housing; discovers the British
Isles, Europe and the World looking at political, physical and human features.
Maps are shown where children need to place the names of countries, cities, rivers,
mountains, seas etc. The program features a ‘postcard’ facility to encourage
children to go away from the computer to find additional information about a
place or feature, which includes photos of many of the locations.
Compass, co-ordinates (6 and 8 figure) and mapping skills are covered in part
two, including an aerial map. Children can design their own map, for example,
of their local area to include roads, rivers and key features.
Rivers, cloud formations and the effects of the weather on a community, including
dressing Smudge for different weather conditions, will come to life in part three
to enable children to appreciate the advantages and difficulties offered by the
changing climate.
Part four (only available on the CD-ROM version) allows children to discovers
the political, physical and human features of the Americas, Africa, Australia
and Asia. As in part one, maps are shown where children need to place the names
of countries, cities, rivers, mountains, seas etc. It features the ‘postcard’
facility, and has many photos taken from around the world.
SMUDGE DISCOVERS THE WORLD is a delightful way for children to acquire geographical
skills and expand their interest and understanding of people and places. It
includes the Smudge Marks reporting facility.
Smudge Discovers the World is our original and extensive
interactive geography package to equip children with basic
geographical skills. It covers a wider range of topics than
the newer Smudge's First Steps in Geography.
